First-hand experience.

Growing up in the country I’ve seen first-hand the impact that climate change has had on rural life in Australia.

Flooding rains were common on my family’s property growing up. When our weir filled and spilled over, we would run down to our creek and jump in, in celebration. It’s been a long time between celebrations. These days rain is a hard thing to come by.

In 2020 our local town ran out of water all together. Water had to be trucked in daily from neighbouring regions, at great expense, just to survive. Age old gumtrees that had stood watching over the land for all my life, died in droves. The impact on the town, commerce, and the psyche of the community was devastating.

Thankfully the rains did come. But the fear still pervades.

Carbon Neutral

As a Mum with small children the impact of climate change weighs heavily on my mind. Frustrated with a lack of action from our government and from industry, I made the decision to embrace the change I want to see, by investing a portion of my profits into a carbon offset scheme.

Australia is unique.

Our native flora inspires so much of my work. It seems fitting then that my work should give back to protecting our native ecosystems.

In partnering with Carbon Neutral, i’ve been able to assess the impact my production has on the environment, and offset this using their carbon offset scheme. These funds are used to reforest a biodiversity corridor in Western Australia with native species.

In 2021, I’ve permanently surrendered 35 tonnes of CO2e emissions by investing in carbon offsets. CO2e or Carbon dioxide equivalent is the number of metric tons of CO2 emissions with the same global warming potential as one metric ton of another greenhouse gas.

This is just the beginning. I’m committed to making better choices, and to grow and continue my contributions. I hope for a better future for my kids, and for future generations everywhere.

Other ways I am trying to make a difference

  • Made to Last

Quality and longevity are a cornerstone of my philosophy. I use only the best materials, sourced locally, and made to last. From my framers, my printers, to sourcing my paint, I buy local when and where possible. By supporting my small business you are supporting the ‘maker movement’ and the value of slow handmade production.

  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

For the last 10 years I have had a strong personal focus on minimising consumption, and I’m pleased to bring this into my business. You will commonly find your online order packaged in recycled material including boxes and packaging. I adopt a minimalist approach to sourcing products for the business, and champion recycling and reusing where and when possible.

  • Greener Choices

When buying new, I prioritise greener choices when available, and I am happy to pay a premium for these. I avoid the over consumption of plastics, and have made the switch to recyclable products including tape, wrapping paper, cards and promotional materials.
