A long road back to art.

“Straight roads do not make skilful drivers” - Paulo Coelho

When I left school at 17, I was convinced I was going to be an artist. I started a fine art degree in Brisbane, Australia in 2002 and after a week of lectures I came to the realisation that I had made a horrible mistake.

Art at university was nothing like I had hoped it would be. I wanted to learn a craft, the practical skills to make me a brilliant painter. Instead what was being taught purely conceptual creativity, in total absence of any practical teaching.

I dropped out the following week and eventually settled on the study of Interior Design. On graduating in 2004, I embarked on a 15 year career in design. Working both in Australia and overseas in London, United Kingdom, I specialised in high end cabinetry design for the luxury residential market.

I was fortunate to work on some truly impressive projects, and for some incredible mentors, before eventually returning to Australia to settle and raise a family.

When it came time to consider a career change, I lamented over my career choices, feeling like I had ended up in a dead end. I was no longer satisfied with the work and opportunities offered in my field, but the thought of starting over filled me with despair.

Then one day, saddened by the fact that I hadn’t practiced art in any form for almost 15 years, I picked up a brush, and started painting.

Initially sharing my work online, I was surprised to find an incredibly supportive community. Spurred on by this encouragement, for the first time since I was 17, I began to dream of being an artist again.

Now I could see my 15 year break from art for what it was - an apprenticeship in small business. One that has been instrumental in finding success as a visual artist.

I feel I am now where I was always supposed to be. In following the road less travelled, I have arrived equipped in ways I couldn’t have imagined possible.

Since returning to painting in 2019 I have been fortunate to build a loyal following of collectors across the globe. My work has been featured in Inside Out Magazine, International Artist Magazine, and in 2022 I was named as one of ‘10 emerging artists to know from Melbourne’s Affordable Art Fair’.
