This charming little still life painting features the bold yellow flowers of the Illyarrie Gum in a softly lit blue vase. The flowers were collected during one of my isolation exercise walks around my neighbourhood earlier in the year. I found this little vase in a local store, and was told it hailed all the way from Afghanistan. It was made in a region where my partner had actually spent a lot of time in the previous few years. The store had imported them years ago and sold the lot, but in a big cleanup had found one box that was missed, lying forgotten under a pile of junk for almost 10 years. So a dozen or so made it back onto the shelves, and one into my living room. It’s a fairly mundane story but served as a timely reminder about how we are all intertwined and connected in this global village. This artwork comes framed in a beautiful Tasmanian oak float frame.
